A co-branded fundraising badge for charity organizations and the 2008 presidential campaigns developed in conjunction by PayPal and MySpace. The widget featured several high profile national campaigns, including notable political candidates in the 2008 presidential race and an online holiday fundraiser featuring Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Nation.
Development for the product included a viral flash widget to be embedded on myspace pages via their developer API, integration with PayPal servers for campaign vetting and fundraising data, and a flash authoring tool that allowed users to fully customize the appearance of their badges for distribution.
A flash-based contest dashboard was also developed for launch of the campaigns, which allowed MySpace users to compete for prizes by sharing the widget and promoting donations.
Overall, the project required a sophisticated level of coordination and programming for scaleability between all participants.
